Babying Sin in the Church!

Today's post comes as a result of a study I am doing with a group of friends, we are reading the book of Proverbs and the First and Second Books of Corinthians and paralleling them. The chapters for today were 1 Corinthians 5 and Proverbs 5. The teachings and rebukes in the fifth chapter of 1 Corinthians are what got me. Since I could not get enough understanding on my own, I found a commentary online that blessed me tremendously and it is what I reference in this post. The site for the commentary is  http://www.enduringword.com/commentaries/4605.htm .  This is the same post that I posted in the group that my friends and are using for this study, but I wanted to share it here as well, because it seriously blessed me, and I felt the need to share it on a broader spectrum.  ************************* The post... First let me say that I am thankful for technology, and how it allows us the opportunity to get a better understanding about things we don't quite understa...

What lesson can we learn from Lamar Odom's situation?

First, let me start this post by saying that I want nothing but God's peace and comfort for the family, friends and fans of Lamar Odom. This post is in no way an attack or me using someone else's troubles for "gain", but I do know the Holy Spirit's voice when it speaks to me, and in this situation, I was ministered to. I am simply sharing that. As customary, my night usually ends with my husband and I crawling into bed and him turning on the sports highlights for a final recap of the sports day, and most mornings usually start with him turning the TV on to catch Sports Center for the same information. Although I am never paying much attention, certain things that are said catch my attention. On last night, Lamar Odom being found unconscious was what grabbed my attention. Once I got settled in at work this morning, I decided to Google Lamar Odom, something I had never been interested in doing before. In my reading, I discovered that although he is only 35 yea...

Faith Like Elijah!

Two days ago, I began studying Jezebel, again. I have studied Jezebel, her spirit, and the evil in her ways before, but I like to go back every so often to study her again when I find myself encountering that spirit. During my study of her, Elijah caught my attention. Elijah was an Old Testament prophet who performed many miracles in God's name. He opposed the worship of false gods and was willing to challenge anyone who tested and tempted the God he served, the true God. So, during my study, 1 Kings 17:2-6 stood out to me. In these passages of scriptures, God instructs Elijah to hide by the Kerith Brook, and that He would have water to drink and that the ravens there would supply him with food. The verses go on to tell us that Elijah immediately went and did what God had instructed him to do. What is so powerful, and what is to be grasped in these four scriptures is this: the only way Elijah could tap into the favor and the care God had for him, was by being ...

The difference between happiness and joy!

For the last few weeks it seems like I've been out in a row boat in the middle of nowhere, alone, deserted, and frustrated. What I love about it though is how God has shown me even more how awesome and faithful He is. I can say that I have (almost) mastered joy! Joy does for you what happiness can never do. Happiness is a feeling that comes as a result of a successful moment. Happiness is a feeling that comes when things are going right, and you can see some light at the end ... of the tunnel. Happiness is an emotion that can easily be swept away when something goes wrong. But JOY! Joy is different. Joy is finding peace in the midst of hell. Joy is not being able to see any light at the end of the tunnel, but still remaining hopeful that the end is coming. Joy is not having everything you need, but not worrying, because you know you are covered by the One who created it all. Joy gives you a reason to smile when people think you are supposed to be moping and sad. Joy ...

Who is LadyJ Durant?

I know.. I know!  You're probably wondering, "Who is this woman?" Well. Let's get right to it. :) My name is Vanessa Durant, christian, wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend, southern born and raised!! I have been married to my husband, Justin, for a little over two years now, and we have two beautiful children. I decided to start this blog after starting my YouTube channel two days ago, and during the process I'm going through right now of helping others to follow Christ and the path that He has laid out for their lives. I will be starting on my first book very soon, as well as writing devotions that will be published here on this blog. I was a Criminal Justice major, as recent as last month, and with only a semester away from having the degree, I quit! Why? Because I am following the path God has for me, and that was not part of the plan (we'll get more into detail about this in an upcoming blog). I wanted to make this introduction brief.. But while y...
